A while back we’ve been on the road for a few weeks , and we had a lot stuff in our trunk . I have to say what I have on the truck is just a mess, all kinds of stuff piled together, you can see all those trash like stuff I don’t want, such as old shoes, useful or useless cables, phones, etc., some toys from years ago, a barely working exercise bike, etc. Of course I had the confidence that I would do a nice job before I went on packing the stuff, but the reality just taught a lesson. When the trunk is full I just stared at the mess I created, said to myself, I just did that? OK, I actually did that. Then it occurred to me that I couldn’t get on my way like this, if I did there would be possible consequences like these: most likely the big mess would just throw themselves off the truck and there would be high probability to cause accidents, or just like you would’ve guessed it, I would be spotted and stopped by patrol officers and probably got ticket even points. Anyway driving with the dumpster will never be a good idea, no matter what.

I still  needed to go ahead, I could start over and try to tidy them up and tie them down or simply find something to hold them together, in a word, I need something to tie my stuff down in the trunk, and this “something” can’t be too big or too expensive. Do I need heavy duty tie downs such as ten thousand pounds ratchet strap or grade 70 tie down chains? Definitely no. I just need something a few hundred pounds strength to hold some luggage and boxes together, nothing qualifies for serious cargo tie downs. I see people use cargo bars to organize their trunk but that’s not what I wanted, all I want is to secure the load already in my trunk. Usually I would drive to local store to find what I wanted but this time I decided to go on-line.

I dived into the tie down world for something can be used with my pick up and the tie downs may not to overkill for my situation, at first I found some 1” ratchet straps, camouflage ones, I liked these straps but they are too much in strength for me, even the price was pretty good, cam buckle tie downs were not better in this sense, what I found was too heavy duty yet not good enough for my purpose, the 1” ratchet straps won’t be able to do anything to the huge mess, only would bring more chaos. To be clear, these one inch straps are not good for huge pile of small stuff. I went through a lot of information and finally arrived at cargo net , I could choose from 48”x60” or 60”x84”, depends on my need, and this was just what I needed, To use cargo nets is pretty simple, just cover the pile with cargo net, hook the hooks on the cargo net on the truck, that’s it. With cargo nets come bungee cords , the bungee cords are just perfect for tying down cargo net, in fact the cargo net is made of interconnected bungee cords! To say the least, both cargo net and bungee cord are commercial tie downs compare to industrial tie downs, which means they are light duty and small in size, and they are mostly being used to hold small stuff. There are a lot interesting use for these cords and nets, the only limit is your imagination.
